We've had thousands of ears of experience…quite literally …and success. The family tradition began with Sidney Bacon the patriarch of the family who introduced the first cosmetically appealing hearing instruments into Australia in the early 1980's. Ross Symonds (retired Television News Presenter and winner of Better Hearing Australia best speaker awards) presented the small “invisi” hearing instruments to the public. The family tradition has continued with three generations of family now involved in hearing health care.

Joanna (Sid's daughter) and husband John Magee brought the first video otoscope into the country at this time enabling people to see inside their own ear and photographs to be taken to send to their Medical Practitioner. They later established the succesful and award winning practice, Better Hearing Specialists in Sydney before taking early and as it turns out premature retirement in 2005.

They founded the Better Hearing Foundation a non-profit organisation which raises awareness of hearing loss and the solutions available and has assisted over 260 people in third world countries with free hearing assistance. The Foundation was launched by Mr Roger Climpson OAM during Hearing Awareness Week in 2004 and speakers included Professor William Gibson, Dr Phillip Chang and Doctor James Wright. The event was packed out and highlighted the various technical and medical solutions to hearing loss. A dvd was produced of the event and distributed free of charge, it was very popular and is now only available to be borrowed as copys are now rare.

The family moved to Cairns three years ago and have designed a state-of-the art facility to bring better hearing to the local community. Products have been sourced world-wide to assist with all aspects of hearing.

The state-of-the-art devices are at the cutting edge of amplification and computerisation. Small almost invisible instruments can reduce background noise whilst enhancing speech and can either work automatically for ease and comfort (pop it in and forget it is there) or can work with a remote control for ultimate control. The choice is yours.

Wireless connectivity to devices such as ipods, MP3 Players, Stereo Systems, Televisions, LCDs etc now enhance your listening pleasure and enjoyment of entertainment.

Moisture resistant products have been sourced for the tropical climate which should ensure more longevity of products in our high humidity. Great news for those struggling in the wet season.

Open moulds now allow the ear to breathe and allow natural sounds to come through to the ear unimpeded. Tiny receivers fit down into the earcanal delivering sound close to the eardrum. The miniature computer in the devices senses feedback before the human ear and cancels it, making those annoying whistling sounds a thing of the past.
